Did you watch the eclipse? Did you post about it on social media? Did your friend comment, “OMG, did you see that? Did you see that…” We get it. You saw the eclipse. So did millions of others, and so will many more in the years to come. As a result, there are now more vloggers than ever before, covering everything from astronomy to Zumba dancing goats. But with so many content creators flooding the market, how do you make viewers take notice of your channel? By making an impact as a creator instead of just another viewer. To stand out as a vlogger in today’s saturated market, ask yourself these questions to help decide whether launching a YouTube channel is right for you
Should I Start a YouTube Channel?
I’m sure most of you have heard about YouTube and how it’s the future of video. Well, it is and I’m sure many of you have watched a video on YouTube or made one. But what many people don’t know is that there are so many great ways to make money with YouTube.
What Are Your Goals As A Creator?
- You will also be able to monetize your channel by promoting your products, affiliate offers, and ad campaigns. Most of the largest streamers earn the majority of their revenue through ad campaigns and brand deals. You can also earn money by selling merchandise and physical items on your website or Amazon. To make money from the videos you create, of course!
- You can also make money from the viewers who watch your videos and engage with you. This is known as “view-to-buy” and the amount of revenue you can generate from each viewer depends on how much they are willing to pay for your product or service.
- You can also make money by promoting other people’s products on your channel. I had this idea of a fitness challenge where I would do a quick workout video every week and promote other people’s workout plans in my videos. It’s been working really well!
- You can also make money by collaborating with other YouTube channels, companies, and brands, which are referred to as “brand deals.” This is where YouTube partners with companies to create content or sponsor YouTube channels in exchange for money or product placement in their videos. For example, one of my favorite YouTubers (who I will not name) collaborated with Bodybuilding.com where she promoted their products in her videos and they paid her for it.
- You can also make money by creating your own brand and products, which are referred to as “brand deals.” This is where you create your own products or services that you promote on YouTube. One of my favorite YouTubers, who I will also not name, created a product called “Keto Chic,” a keto diet supplement that helps you lose weight faster than usual. She makes money from the sales of this product and she has been able to create a successful business with it.
- There are other ways to make money with YouTube besides all of the above-mentioned ways, but these are some of the most common ways to monetize your channel:
- You can also make money by selling merchandise and physical items on your website or Amazon. To make money from the videos you create, of course!
- You can also make money by promoting other people’s products on weight. She had a lot of success with her product and has been able to make a lot of money from it.
What Type Of Videos Do You Want To Make?
- Make videos on a specific subject or niche.
- Make a series of videos on the same topic but over a period of time.
- Create a video that teaches viewers something, like how to do something, how to cook something, or how to build something.
- Create a video that entertains viewers, like prank videos or funny videos (I don’t recommend these).
- Create a video that is informative and educational but entertaining at the same time, like how-to-videos for things like web design and computer programming (a lot of people watch these types of videos).
- Do you have an interesting story you want to tell? Whether it’s about your life experiences or some other type of story? Tell it in video format and make money with YouTube! How much money you make will depend on the type of content you put out there and the quality of your production (i.e., lighting, sound). Also, consider what type of content you want to make.
- Do you want to make money with YouTube? Do you have a product or service you can bring to the site?
- What type of videos do you want to make that will have the highest potential for video views and the highest return on investment (ROI)?
- What type of videos are most likely to get a lot of views, but not necessarily a lot of revenue?
- Do you have a good story to tell? If so, put it on YouTube.
Can You Afford The Up-Front Costs?
- The first thing you need to decide is how much you can afford to spend. If you want to start out with a small budget, then YouTube might not be the best place for you. YouTube is a great place for those who are willing to spend a lot of money on their videos because they get paid every time someone watches their video. The amount of money each person gets paid depends on how many views your video has and how many subscribers your channel has. In order to make money with YouTube, you’ll need a large following and lots of views.
- Before you start producing content, make sure that you have enough money saved up to cover the costs associated with doing so. Depending on the type of content that you want to produce, there are up-front costs associated with starting up a channel such as: buying equipment, renting equipment, purchasing software (such as Adobe Premier Pro), having professional photos taken for your videos (which can cost anywhere from $100-$ a domain name, registering a business name, paying for a business license, and hiring someone to manage your channel.
- Once you have enough money saved up to cover these costs, you’ll need to acquire the tools that you’ll need to create your content. Unless you plan on creating original content, it may be difficult to start out with just the software and equipment that you will need. If you have the money and are willing to invest in creating your own equipment, then, by all means, do so. However, if this is not an option for you or if starting out with just the software and equipment isn’t possible for your budget, then YouTube might not be the best place for you.
- Once you have all of the necessary tools (including editing software), it’s time to start creating content! Before starting out on YouTube as an independent channel producer (ICP), I recommend that everyone go through a training program called a website and domain name, hire a web designer to create your site, and any other legalities that may come up.
- If you want to start out with a small budget, then YouTube might not be the best place for you. YouTube is a great place for those who are willing to spend a lot of money on their videos because they get paid every time someone watches their video. The amount of money each person gets paid depends on how many views your video has and how many subscribers your channel has. In order to make money with YouTube, you’ll need a large following and lots of views. So if you have limited funds, it’s best to do something else with your time or find another way to make money online that doesn’t require as much up-front investment in order to start making money right away.
Final Words
Launching a YouTube channel isn’t a decision to be made lightly. It’s a time commitment that’ll take up a significant portion of your life. It’s also an investment; you’ll need to spend money on equipment, produce content, and promote your channel. If you’re ready to make that commitment, though, YouTube can be a rewarding platform for both creators and viewers alike. With YouTube’s wide reach and easy-to-use tools for starting a channel, it’s never been easier to get started on your path to becoming a vlogger.
